Heating a greenhouse

Post by Panteg Produce »

Do you heat your green house or just keep it frost free ,or indeed not bother at all?
If you do use a heater then wich type Paraffin or electric?.

I used to use a parafin heater on frosty nights. That was when I grew a lot of bedding for school fundraising. But to be honest although it wasn't very expensive it only just keeps the plants alive. If there is prolonged cold they don't thrive. Also some didn't like the fumes.
I don't heat now. I grow the early seed in the conservatory and move it out to the greenhouse when just bubble wrap or fleece protection is enough.

We worked it out that old Arthur on our allotments was spending £20 on parrafin
for every £10s worth of tomatoes! +confused+

I'm still experimenting with a candle powered upturned plant pot job, since my battery powered max/min went wrong, the jury's still out1 :?
