Plastic Bottle Cloches

We have made some small cloches for our carrots as they keep fallling prey to predators (see my growing thread). We have used cut in half lemonade bottles. Do they need air holes in them? The top halves can have the lids removed, just wondering if I need to cut holes in the bottom halves.....
