I know, I knowI know, I knowI am a terrible gardener. But if has flowers it has to stay. Be it a plant or a weed.
This one is magnificent and now is bigger than me, with the prettiest flowers ever. It will stay until they are gone. http://www.busheyk9.co.uk
If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning
Re: I know, I knowI'm the same Wendy...if it's pretty why pull it up?
Don't dream it, BE it....
Am looking forward to welcoming Sunny Clucker to Woodbridge Suffolk!!!!! Re: I know, I knowIts called Flax. Also called Fireweed as it used to grow out of bomb sites. Careful you don't let it go to seed as it will take over.
Re: I know, I knowI think its very pretty Wendy
Happy to have shown Titchy Clucker a little corner of France
Sara XxX Re: I know, I knowThanks for a name Maggie. I just think it is lovely.
Doesn't matter if it has a few friends. My garden is just full of plants and some weeds, with flowers, so if they find a space they are most welcome. http://www.busheyk9.co.uk

Re: I know, I knowI have got a lawn full of flowering clover, very pretty and good for the bees, I will leave it there for a while but it’ll need to go sooner or later.
Bah Humbug
Re: I know, I knowI have those in my garden too Wendy and my favourites which are like tall spikey wavery towers of lavender coloured blossoms.
As I told my grandson the other day in the woods, a weed is only a flower growing in the wrong place. I also added that in the woods there were no such thing as weeds only wild flowers. Helen xx

My Flax has now found the right place to grow, as has yours http://www.busheyk9.co.uk

Re: I know, I knowI know the plant as Rosebay Willowherb or as Maggie says fireweed , maybe flax is the family name. There is a mass of it growing on the bottom path of the wood at the bottom of the cul de sac and as you say Wendy it grows taller than either of us but it is such a blaze of colour. When the seed heads die they go cotton woolish and thats when they do the damage by blowing the cotton wool everywhere, you really dont want a load of it in you garden ! I love the foxgloves the birds drop in the garden and never pull them up although some folk regard them as weeds too.
It will be alright in the end , if its not alright, it isn't the end .
Quote from the proprietor of the The best exotic Marigold Hotel for the elderly and beautiful Re: I know, I knowYep Rosebay willow herb or fireweed. Is also a perennial and will spread from underground runners. Love it but be ruthless to stop it spreading!
I think it got its name fireweed because it thrived on all the bombsites after the blitz. Quand je serai vieille je vais vivre en France
Sunny Clucker, she came, she saw, she moved on! Re: I know, I knowOoo if it goes underground. Then I will pull it up once it has finished flowering. I don't want it killing off what plants I do have

Wiki article says some species of willow herbs are used as a sweetener, an anti-inflamtory, suppliment for dogs, medicine for prostate troubles.

If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning Re: I know, I knowGood for you, Wendy, letting it stay while it is giving you enjoyment. I like the quote that a weed is only a flower that is in the wrong place!
(Mind you I do pull out all the rosebay willowherb that appears all over our garden, but then again it is not your big and beautiful one......) Re: I know, I knowI once thought Himalayan Balsam was a beautiful and interesting plant (pink 'policemans helmet' flowers and a seed pod that explodes when you touch it).
Introduced it to the garden, then spent several years eradicating it again. Dance caller. http://mo-dance-caller.blogspot.co.uk/p/what-i-do.html
