I've been hacking away at the ivy behind the bomb shelter, where we are building the chicken run. Am I good to stick it straight onto the compost heap (chopped up), or will I just end up with loads of baby ivy plants? - ie, do I need to send it off as green waste?

I wouldn't put any ivy on the heap except the leaves and very green stalks, none of the woody parts and even then I would shred it as it can take a while to break down. If you mix it up with grass clippings etc. it will go quicker. Dom
Thanks guys - green waste it is! OH will be pleased as there's an awful lot of it to chop up... At least we should be able to start getting on with the base for the run now though
