Not certain if this is the right place

Post by wendy »

But it is about our pond.

It has a very big filter and it is clean and works well.....except. There is a lot of well dirt around. ie: where they have pooped etc that is on the sides and on the tops of the lilly leaves sometimes. Everytime the fish swish their tails it is everywhere.
I think it is making the pond appear 'muddy'
I am sure I have heard of stuff you can put in the pond that sort of eats that stuff. Anyone got any ideas what it is called ?

I have 8 fish in there 1 large golden Orf, see picture, 6 good sized goldfish. One black fish, never turned gold who I love to see, but it is very difficult at the moment.

Please excuse the netting, but we have a major Heron problem here.

Hi Wendy ...I've found the only way to keep a fish pond crystal clear is to use a biological and UV filter .. they are well worth the money )t' ... There are over 60 koi in my pond and the only time the water starts getting murky is when the UV bulb needs replacing ..... I know there are chemicals which clump the algae so it sinks to the bottom but I've never used them.

Jannie....what is the UV filter, it rings a bell. Maybe I have it in the filter we have and needs replacing.

Thanks STG.... Is that a type of filter ?

That's the one I have Steve )t' ... needs the foam filter cleaning often to start off with.. but once it's been running a while and the biological filter is activated ..it only needs the foam filters cleaning in some pond water once a month or so .. leccy I don't count as it's the price I pay to keep my fish healthy ..but it's got to be cheaper than chemicals. :-D
