Ready for a good spring!

Post by Mallard »

I'm really pleased I managed to get most of the digging done before the rain set in! :-D
Just checked and emptied the rain gauge!

1pm today.

Moles? >coc< Rats, woodies, cabbage whites, slugs and the odd tea-leaf, but I've never had anything to do with moles!

Well done Mallard )t' It's a nice feeling knowing most of the hard work is out of the way. At my site I was amazed how many decided it was a bad year and gave up with intentions of starting afresh in spring ... it made a lot more sense to get the plot cleared and not have to start again from scratch.

Another good weekend in the garden for me in the North East.

The weather is unusually mild for the time of year but we all know how quickly things can change. What we don't want is a for everything in the garden to come on because of the mild weather only to be knocked back by bad weather in March/April.

You lot laugh at Auntie Maggie when I say don't plant out to early as you'll be sorry. The garden centres rub their hands every Easter when everybody sees all the lovely plants and put them out to quick. The garden centres always have their bedding plants inside (I wonder why) and then hmm Auntie Maggie was right as people have to go and buy some more.

I was at the plot today getting the sprouts in as some have started to look sad possibly due to the milder conditions. I also noted that some of my blueberry bush leaf buds were starting to open, and one of my newly planted rhubarb crowns was coming up already - not what I wanted to see at all }hairout{ If winter decides to throw in snow and a serious cold snap, the rhubarb will probably not survive as the crowns I bought were not that big with only a single bud on some of them.

I noticed today that my early rhubarb is coming through, but it's an established crown, so it should survive! >fi<
