White fly

Post by paddy graham »

I have some Grapefruit and Lemon plants indoors about 2ft high grown from seed, but just started to repot and noticed tiny white flys on the Grapefruit, any ideas what they are and the best way to get rid of them?I had this on some Fushia plant and put them out side for a couple of days to get rid but cant really do that with these.Any help would be good.Thanks.

white fly are a type of aphid and can usually treat much the same - either a pesticide for aphid and whitefly, or you could try spraying with a diluted liquid soap. Sometimes better to take the plant outdoors and give them a good spray which should knock some of the pests off and that way they won't re-infest the plants once brought back indoors. You might need to do this a few times as there are most likely to be some whitefly still in larval stage that won't be affected by whatever treatment you use unless you go for a systemic pesticide.
