Asiatic lillies - care

Post by Freeranger »

I have a lovely new asiatic lily plant in a pot of a dryish sisal/coir type of medium. I don't know the variety, but it's a kind of orangey yellow colour. All the advice I can find online is either US or obviously from milder conditions than we have.
Ideally, I'd like to plant it out, but I live in a high area of South Scotland that gets a lot of rain with a soil that tends to clay and is not brilliantly drained. There is a border on the south (stone) wall of the house but the soil is quite poor. The garden is on the south-facing side of the house with a field behind and has a dry stone wall around it. It gets misty and a bit frosty due to the burn that runs through the middle (E-W). The garden and field slope down towards the burn, which is what it drains to.
So, questions:
Is there anywhere in the garden it might do OK or should I leave it in a pot/tub?
Can I leave it outside over winter? Our lowest temp here was -22, but it's usually no worse than -10-15.
Do you have any other advice on how to care for it?
Thanks for any assistance.
