Hello All, this is a great website and forum-never knew there were so many chicken keepers out there! I'm getting three ex battery hens in a few weeks, I've read almost everything I can find on how to look after them but feel I need a little help from you guys on some very simple topics.
Foxes and other burrowers- should I place the weld mesh completely under the entire run? I'll be putting a skirt of it to a depth of about a 45cm around the run and just under the frame anyway.
Straw bedding - these new girls will be quite cold so I need to keep them as warm as possible, March can be quite chilly here. As well as the wood shavings how much straw is enough straw? (house is 3ftx3ft) Should I use anything extra until they get fully feathered?
