Chicken Waste

Post by OldForum »

Any tips about the best way to dispose of the Poo and chippings when I clean out the run.

Can I compost/dig into garden or put into green bin recycling?

Well they sell pelleted chicken poo in garden centres, but it's too strong for most things fresh, blackcurrant bushes are the exception. So that would compost.
Are the chippings wood? they might take longer to rot down, maybe it depends how much of them in the heap. Our mulch disappears though.

Hi Lucy,
I put it in the compost until it gets too full. Then I put it in the green wheelie bin for the council. They say they take vegetarian animal waste.
I don't clear the wood chippings that often though.

I put mine in the compost and then spread over the garden the next year, also my girls and boys are out and about during the winter months and the garden is getting better for veg every year. I put the chippings and hay that is in the nest boxes in compost as well - sylvie
