whats the smallest gap a chicken can fit through?

Post by Emma »

See I'm imagining that a chicken can only fit through a gap thats roughly the size of it's body.

But do they do that cat thing of getting through holes it shouldn't be at all possible for them to get through?

Don't worry, I'm not planning of leaving gaps, but we're in the process of making some gates for the side of the house, and I'd prefer to let the light through. So gaps and mesh, small gaps or no gaps?

Any thoughts?

Right, I've been outside with the ruler.
The flocknet round my hens has a mesh of 3"x4" squares. If a strand snaps they will find and squeeze through a double square, no problem. The 4' high net will usually keep them in though I have one that's getting out every morning at the moment.
