Red mite?

Post by Verity »

When I shut the hens in their coop this eveing, I went back indoors, and felt something on my arm... I looked doen, and saw what looked like a tiny, bright red crab or spider... is this the dreaded red mite? How do I get rid of them? The ladies have made a dust bath in the coop, I have noticed.

Also, after I shut the hens in, I took my rabbit and guinea pig indoors for the night- can they get red mite too?
Bock? Bock? Bock... bock... BOCKARGH!!!

Hi Verity,
They are awful aren't they? It certainly sounds like red mite. The battle begins.
I have red mite powder that I do the girls with. I scrubbed out their house. I also have some old jeyes fluid and I completely sprayed the crevices with, the 'new' sort is not supposed to work. Then my husband painted the house with oil based paint all inside. It did eventually get rid of them, but it is a long slog

If you can't be a good example........
you will just have to be a horrible warning
