Their first strawberries

Post by AnnaB »

Never given these to them before as there were never enough. Got all of them eating out of my hand (even the very frightened one) in fact she always waits for her partner to eat first. Not today she was there first!

I've found that if I dont hide my strawberries those dratted hens find them and escape from the run to finish the job the blackbirds and slugs started.

So last year and this I've grown them under a "nurse crop" (buttercups mostly) and then there are some left for us.

Or is it that the blackbirds are too busy stripping the cherries, and the hens that get out dash for the tree to see what they've dropped.
