Advice Please (Grass fertilizer)

Post by Richard »

Wendy
Someone has given me a bag of Lawn Sand, with moss killer and fertiliser.
Is it safe with the chickens, or should I not bother ?

Mo
You have chickens and a LAWN?
I'd have thought they'd have scratched up all the moss and well fertilized anything that was left.

Don't know what is in it but I dont think I'd trust it unless maybe you watered it in when the hens were shut in for the night. But even so I'd find out whats in it first. If you put it down as pellets they'd sample it for sure.

Well, it was a lawn LOL. It was reduced to mud, but now it is starting to grow, and I now don't let them from their run every day only of a weekend.
It is actually sand, not pellets. I suppose with the weather so wet at the moment, now would be the time to do it before I let them out to ruin what once was a nice garden, next weekend.
I could keep them in their run all the time, but they are so lovely and amusing I just love to watch them.
Thanks for the watering in advice.

google gives this http://www.gardenseeker.com/lawn_sand.htm
not that it tells you if it hurts hens.
Mine will eat sand (we filled in some hollows with sand which they thought was just for them!)
