Its been ages since I ahev posted on here as I tend to use Facebook now but I missed you so thought I would bombard you with questions lol
What shrubs/trees would survive being installed in a run with my ladies. I think they would benefit from some structure with shade and it would give them a more natural feel that tarp...any ideas?
Nice to see you back little blue egg. Here's a link to a thread Johnny started recently, it includes a list of toxic plants to be avoided. Hope it helps. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=41417" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (If the link doesnt work the thread was called something like 'what can I give my girls from the garden') We only had one little bush which survived the chickens, it was a little hebe. hopefully some others will be along soon with hardy chicken proof plants.

Not many, to be honest. I think you would have to make sure the girls don't dig them up as soon as your back it turned, maybe build a little fence round the tree. I have a full size oak tree in my run and they love to pull bits of bark of looking for bugs.

we have two very large hebe's in our Walk-in-Run and some dandelion still survive around the edges lol, one side also has a mock orange hedge (helps with any odours) which is on the OUTSIDE so is still intact. lol in our spare Walk-in-Run we have a peace rose which has survived, thankfully even though i have had chooks in there and more recently ducks.
my advise buy as big as you can afford, good luck
