what size chicken wire?

Post by lilgenie24 »

is 1inch ok, or should we go for 1/2inch?
Just ordering a lovely new walk in run, since the fox got my chickens in the spring, and don't want any misshaps. Would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks
Clare

I have half inch but I don't think it is strong enough although we have never had foxes so far.If I did mine again I would make it of stronger stuff...There is something people recommend on here but can't remember the name of it., I am sure they will be along soon.

Do youn mean chicken wire which isn't strong enough to keep foxes out or galvanised mesh which is a lot stronger? We have the half inch galvanised mesh.

Chicken wire a fox will bite through...galvy not. 1/2 inch a mouse will struggle to get through and certainly a rat won't....so 1/2 inch galvy mesh would be the best....well in my opinion anyway.

Yep, chicken wire is for keeping chooks in, not foxes out.

Welded mesh is better, this place is a firm favourite here...

1" or 1/2" will do fine!, as the others have said make sure it's galvanised MESH, minimum thickness if wire 16g (in my opinion!)

Just got some 16g wire, it makes 19g wire look woefully inadequate!
