Flown to Rainbow Bridge

Post by albertajune »

My first chicken Fifi, a beautiful French Maran has joined other loved chickens on Rainbow Bridge.

She was about 6, was the top girl of my three chickens. She was the one who ran with speed up the garden path when I went out to them, loved to be hand fed with treats and was gentle and intelligent. She had been slowing down lately but I could see nothing wrong with her. Still bright eyed, tail up and enjoying treats. I sensed it was age that was her problem. Yesterday, she didn't want to eat but did drink a little and just wanted to rest. When I saw her face gradually dropping into the dirt where she was sitting, I put her into a large box with some straw, still in her run and there she stayed until she died.

It all happened so quickly. I know that she should have gone into the recycle bin, but she is now under a new rose bush, her favourite thing to eat in the garden. The other girls looked for her at bed time but are settling down this afternoon. It does seem so quiet without her as she was such a live wire. Feeling sad at her going. {cry}

RIP my beautiful Fifi, you will never be forgotten.
I am now a widow and live with my memories.

What a good age she got to, and what a lovely resting place you chose for her.
{hug} It's hard losing them isn't it? They are such little characters. {hug}

Sorry to hear that June. Fifi was a lucky hen and was gifted with 6 lovely years with
you.

Ah, June, I shed a little tear when I read your post, I'm so sorry. I never realised how attached you can be before having chickens, but they are such lovely lovely birds with such different characters. What a lovely resting place, hugs to you {hug} xxx

Sorry to hear this, June. My little Saqulain went just the same way a couple of weeks ago. It's very peaceful for them, but very sad for their humans.
Bea; 19 hens (most of whom I intended to get); 6 bantams (which I never intended to have); old Benji dog and young Toby dog (who I definitely wanted). Three years into country living and loving it.

Sorry to hear that you also lost one recently. Before keeping chickens, to me chickens were just birds. I didn't realise just how different their personalities would be and how much they would worm their way into my heart and be on a par with my other pets. I must look up a Saqulain as I have never heart of this breed before.
