ducklings on the A38

Post by sandy »

WEdnesday in the general stores Anne a lovely customer came in to say there were a group of duckings just about to cross the busy road.I left her in charge of the shop and ran out. Another customer had just pulled up and rushed to help. I stood one side and the lady the other, bravely or foolishly we stood still with our hands up , luckily the cars spotted us and stopped while we herded the babies across the road to the fields. I left her there while I ran back and got my cousin out with a box. I wanted to ring Secret World who are quite a way from us but will rescue wildlife from anywhere.By this time there was quite a gathering of people who suggested rounding up the ducklings in a box and putting them in the small lake in the middle of the field as someone said they had seen a female duck flying over. I had to go back in the shop but that is what they did hoping the little ducklings cries would alert their mum. Hmmm I am sure they must have perished as I heard and saw no flying ducks, just wish I had taken them home in temporary accomodation and phoned SW. Two of us against a crowd lost out though.
