Welsummer First Egg

Post by Crofts »

Finally, after 30 weeks of waiting, my Welsummer pullet Matilda has laid her first egg. She has actually laid 3 eggs in the last 3 days, which I hope is a sign of things to come.

I was expecting her eggs to be darker and more prominently freckled. They are quite small, but perfectly formed. I am told they will increase in size as she gains laying experience. I've not tasted one yet, but I'm told they're good.

Matilda is a gorgeous bird, but she doesn't like being handled that much.

I hope my Cream Legbar pullet Star, also 30 weeks old, will now follow Matilda's example!
