Hear hear - Mels. My sentiments too.
This has been an interesting thread. I think I'll do what Wendy has done and give both options. Less wasteage but also helping them. Mine also like to bath in their food!
(My 'huge comb, bad eyesight girlie' -Pip will have her own large wide bowl so she can get to the food. Such a babe, she is!)
I've not seen these mushroom feeders. That might be a solution in the future....
Mine are under cover mostly so the weather shouldn't be a problem!!
ooohhhh!!! I do like this site. Its' lovely to 'hear' people talking/caring about their animals in the same way as I do!!

My girls are on layers mash. I feed it in a storage rack screwed to the wall of the hen house, off the floor. What they drop they clear up later.

This gets filled first thing in the morning, lunchtime and just before I shut them up at night.

:-D We painted the inside a couple of years ago - using match pots and leftovers - does look very cheery.
