Debs allotment diary 2012

Post by boosmummy »

I thought I would start this as on the new plot nothing has been done, so its pretty much from the beginning.

If no one has seen my previous post, i've been given a new plot with better drainage. Yesterday i went and measure approx. its 60' x 30' (those measurements are rounded up to the nearest 10. This is slightly smaller then my old plot but, its in a better area with better drainage so it will work out better in the long run.

Ill try and update every day that i've been down there whats been happening etc. xx

Well today, i have taken up all the old fence posts off the old plot and i've put them back in to the new plot as well as the gate posts and gate. The plot itself is 60' x 25' so its a good size. The down side is im now led in bed because i cant move, because ive done far too much and im also growing a darker shade of red every second because im so badly burnt on my shoulders, chest, arms and legs!!

eeek!! Have you got an aloe vera plant? the gel from inside the leaves is very good for sunburn.
Hope it eases quickly for you x

Well today ive been down and moved the majority of the stuff over from the other plot, things like wood and railway sleepers a couple of container plants including some http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk/todo_now/lovage.php, that'll make some nice lovage soup in the summer!!!

Whilst i was moving everything, the lass across the way to my previous plot offered me 2 geese - which i refrained from taking - it took me all my might but mr husband would kill me, hes doesnt like geese, but she did give me a big IBC container to use as a water butt. Its a bit of an eyesore (as ibc's are) but im going to put it down the side of my shed and put bamboo caning around it to disguise it so it look more natural and less well, of a big white plastic thing!! Ive just got a couple more bits of wood to move to the new plot and there is some weed matting pegged down that i need to get as well then everything is moved.

xx

Ive only been down for an hour today, but ive managed to cover a but more of the plot:

The local timber merchants, sell the polythene that the timber comes wrapped in for 50p a sheet, i got 4 today which has covered the back end of the plot.

I also covered the ibc container at the back with some bamboo:

it looks less of an a big plastic eyesore at least, the shed will go next to it so it will be less seen when everything is up but still accessible xx
