The rhubarb this year is absolutely massive!! I put some manure on it over the winter after cutting it back and its done it the world of good.

The gooseberries were only moved down to the plot a few weeks ago maybe 6 weeks ish and they are looking really good.

i went plant shopping today. i got some peas, cauliflower, onion and brussel sprouts. i planted up the peas which the chickens tried to eat, so i had to make a little cage to keep them protected and the onions.

How lovely that you have it mild enough to start putting plants in the beds on the lottie.
Its great to stand back and admire the freshly dug beds etc but nothing beats the sight of the 1st shoots of a hopeful harvest.
It will be alright in the end , if its not alright, it isn't the end .

Today i have been mostly chicken proofing my allotment!! As much as i love my chickens not only was the air blue yesterday but they were heading for the pot! They had an absolute field day with my plants so ive been making little plant cages:

Image

this is a miniature version for my onions. Just using old hose pipe and garden cans and some netting. The rest of the beds have bigger versions of this but as usual i forget to pictures! I managed to get acquire my first allotment injury of the the year too, i was using a scalpel to cut the hosepipe up not concentrating and it went straight into my hand. thankfully it was just the tip that went in, so i didnt full on cut but it went deep and i have a big bruise on the palm of my hand {warn}

Ah here are the pea plants and the chickens behind them realising they were unable to get in mwahahahahahaha

and of course my girl, planting up some pumpkin seeds ready for halloween

I realised or remembered yesterday that there is a little garden centre not even 1/4 mile away from the allotments. So we took a trip there today for some garden canes and netting. It was small but really good and the staff were so helpful, ill definitely be going there in future if i can.

So i now have; peas, onions cauliflower, brussel sprouts, rhubarb, gooseberries, blueberries and figs on the allotment. Id say its actually coming on!!

I've picked my first 'produce' today, some lovely rhubarb off the plot. Not only that i noticed some greenery in the half built greenhouse, and i found some potatoes growing i planted ages ago, i thought they were dead! Plus i found some strawberries in there too, so i repotted them into a hanging basket. xx

It's always very exciting when you pick your first produce. Ours was rhubarb as well. Love the hosepipe arches for netting. Are they stable or did you need to use a stick part way inside on each side?

With all the rain and sun the grass on the allotment has grown out of no where and so today in shorts and vest - and sunglasses to fend off the pollen i lawn mowed the plot - it was hard work!! and only 1/4 of it but it looks so much tidier. I had to take the beds that have no soil in up and put them to one side then mow. ive put them back down and im in the process of getting the bottoms of them covered so no more grass and weeds can come through. x

Miss Boo decided that she wanted her own bed to plant in. It took a while to explain firstly you can just plant an apple and secondly apple trees take ages to grow. In the end (with the help of my mum) she settled for strawberries, runner beans, 2 pumpkins and some dolly phlox flowers that she picked for the name because they made her laugh:

Image

Hopefully the pumpkins will grow these are 4 batch of seeds that we are on, the other have been over watered with kindness!

I've not been to the allotment (only to sort the chickens) the wind has been vicious here today, plus i have the dreaded ear infection back it seems whenever i get off the AB's the infection comes back. My face is swollen on one side including my gum around my wisdom tooth which is sore too and my right ear - well thats just mank. As for my left ear i have a constant noise in it like an electrical static. i just feel dreadful. Im going back to the GP tomorrow hopefully for a referral to the ENT clinic.

As soon as the weather comes a bit better (and i feel better) my plan is to line the rest of the raised bed with weed control and cover that with a 3inch covering of manure. then order get some more top soil ordered.

I could really do to take some pictures, but keep forgetting!

Today ive spent the entire day on the allotment with none other than - mr husband!! He's really helped me out and its been lovely having him there. We've finished putting the weed control down in the raised beds, put about 5 barrows of manure in each one. Ive weeded the other beds and given everything a good watering.
