My greengage tree is falling over!

Post by Mo »

We planted a Cambridge Gage some years ago (20? 15? 10? ), and cut off some sickly looking branches.

So now it is very lopsided, the trunk is dead on one side, and being eaten hollow by insects. The other side does well, every year we pick the greengages thinking this will be its last. Last year it had one branch on the ground (the W side) Now it has tilted over more and the N side is on the ground too. Greengages and grass tangled together. Books say dont prune in winter and we cant bring ourselves to cut off all that fruit.
