Not a prize winner but might last all summer!

I've got various piles of rubbish to clear from the hasty coop building project so this afternoon I thought I'd stack the useful wood into a separate pile. I've still got a couple of complete and half complete pallets that can be used and a few pieces that splintered and are quite frankly a bit dangerous.
However I found these 3 pieces of pallet that immediately became a fun game that we'll probably be playing all summer.
'Sharks'
There are 3 pieces of pallet, spaced evenly apart, and make for narrow wobbly bridges or pirate planks. The 'shark' swims up, down and around the bridges. The boys have to walk the plank and if they fall off and into the water they have to jump back up and get back on before the shark can get them. We've had lots of fun this afternoon but I fear I've made a rod for my own back - apparently I make the best shark!

That's a really good idea, Sebrah, not only to use up your pallet but keep your little ones amused for hours (and using their imagination and keeping fit, no doubt with all the rushing about)

When you look at the price of garden toys (climbing frames etc.), and take into account the fact that your boys are learning that they don't have to have the latest thing from the shops I think that IS a prize winner.
It could be a summer-long project too, I bet it will change over the summer, as they and you have new ideas. (Or just to let the grass grow underneath)

I use those bits cut from the middle of pallets to stand my plastic boxes on with the small veg planted in them. Put two together a few inches apart, you can just get four boxes on, and it helps with drainage to keep them off the ground.

When I read the post first the picture in my mind was of the complete/half pallets being used as islands with the bridges linking them (would they be strong enough?)

Depends on the type of wood the pallet is made from, Mo, most of them are very strong. The ones in the picture don't have the long piece of wood on the underside, but they are still strong enough to support those two little boys. You could make a bridge from one pallet to another a few inches off the ground, and get the plasters ready when the fall off.

I've got a couple of smallish complete pallets (no gaps) that would make great islands. Good idea, that will extend the game 10 fold and enough for a couple of friends (and adults) to join in with!
