Another take on the pallet coop

Post by glasgowdan »

Here's my attempt. Will they lay inside the egg box? Will they endless proportions! It's quite high, about 5 ft at the top edge, so hard to lean in to get the eggs from within!

I have a 3l feeder and drinker hanging inside, a single perch for my 3 hens and a timed light, which is keeping them laying happily for me, 3 eggs every day.

Only had to spend £5 on nails and £8 on chipboard.

Looks nice and sturdy. Just a thought, if the nest box being high makes it awkward to get the eggs, couldn't you next project be a pallet step?

looks cool :-D

i would put the food and water under the coup
and not inside
if the water spills it will make the inside cold and damp
and any uneaten food will smell

Aargh, some text went missing from my post! "Will they endless proportions"!!!

I meant to say they will not lay in the egg box, but lay on the left hand side as you look at the photo so the eggs are hard to reach! Might consider food and drink under the coop but for now I'm all DIY-ed out. They have been fine inside, the water is up and out of foot's way etc.

Only got 2 eggs today mind...first time in a week :)

I've been a site guest for a good long while but not posted before now, cheers.

That's because they like to lay eggs in a dark cosy corner. With the door right by the nest box, turning left will be more attractive to them )t'

Try putting a fake china egg or golf ball in the nesting area where you want them to lay it does work )t'
