The crematorium where I went have a policy of burying all the metal bits (from the coffin, and jewellery that some people would prefer to be cremated with) in the crematorium gardens. However, in my "before interview" research (if you look on your council's website, you might find details of the local crematorium), some crematoriums were thinking along the lines of salvaging and selling the metal as scrap to help pay towards running costs.
