Well it hasn't been very well advertised, because this is the first I have heard of it. So I would assume most haven't heard either, as I am an absolute news freak and read and watch everything.
I turn off lights in rooms I am not in anyway. Only put water that is wanted in the kettle to boil.
My house will be in darkness at that time as I am out anyway.

Yes, I think most of us are frugal / green friendly and aware

I remember it being spoken about last year, but only found it after searching yesterday on another website. One of those events which will probably grow in time.

Thought it's a great idea and collectively.......etc.

I was also thinking that when I watched it Wendy re the advertising. It must have just been for Australia and the ideas caught on, or maybe the Amercians are a bit miffed they didnt think of it and have taken it over. LOL. Nah, they probably wont join in anyway.

Ill join in, is it just lights or all non-essential appliances. Blimey, no forum for an hour how will we all cope?!

Thanks Rachell.

Maybe a little short notice, so............

I'll take the header off top of Forum, but leave this thread for anyone who may like to take part in.

then............

We'll have our own 'special day'. Maybe 'Frugal Day' or 'Happy Planet Day' where we can do everything we can to save money on that one day, then collectively work out how much we've saved ourselves and how much we've saved energy.

I'll put my thinking cap on for a Launch.

It could be not only a good experiment (like, can we do this every day) but a nice Forum Members Mission as well.

Thanks, Richard

I have never heard of this either...

I like the idea of our own "happy planet day" Richard!

Like all the above I hadn't heard of this - and what a shame as it's such a good idea. I shall have to make sure my kids are in bed on time for once and then I can quite happily take part!

Wonder if tassidev has heard of it??

I think it's a wonderful idea - I'll turn off what I can and use a torch/candles that evening. Hope the neighbours don't think I have a burglar!!! (f+

Did you do it? I think a few of my neighbours did it as the street was very dark, lamposts were still on, probably health and safety, or more like Stockport Council didnt have a clue about it. My kids thought it was great though. Hopefully it will catch on more for next year. Was there anything on the news about it?

Didn't see anything on the News atall.

Maybe it'll catch on next year. I'm sure people will have seen it on Google etc.

Mind you, I'm quite used to it down the lane, we have one of the highest power cut ratings in Kent just round here!

It was on the BBC 24 hour news yesterday, first time though.
My house was total darkness and nothing electrical on. We were at a restaurant. Does that count???

We were at a ceilidh, wondeering where everyone else was. (I think they were all in their cars, a good crowd turned up later).

Do you think a 'token' hour does anything except make people feel they've 'done their bit'?
