Hip help please (Update)

Post by p.penn »

I know this sounds really over-dramatic, but do you think it is possible that I keep dislocating my hip? >coc<

I was away several weeks ago and was sitting with my legs crossed, then I moved the top leg suddenly and the bottom one was agony, as if it had popped out, then went back in. It happened twice more later that day. The next day I felt really bruised all around my upper thigh/bottom, and it has continued to feel bruised and done the same a couple of times since. >dum<

If it is possible, is there anything I can do to help it?

I don't think that you are dislocating it but I have had a similar experience and it blimming hurts doesn't it? It also happens with my knee and I have to hop around uttering very un lady-like noises until it goes back into place.

As to what can be done to help - don't cross your legs?

If its happened more than once go to the doctor because everytime it happens it weakens, thus ending up with a hip replacement or an op of some sort to strengthen.

Not sure that is possible Helen...does it hurt other times? If you have dislocated something you usually have to get it put back in as they don't go back in themselves +confused+

I'd see your Doctor..you can't mess about with hips :-D

I'd think the best thing to do would be to see a doctor, my mum's knee used to always dislocate, the first time was horrendous, ambulance and everything, then after that it would just quickly pop out and go back in (or she'd have to force it in) and it would be really painful after, it was because the joint was really weak so she had to have physio and go to the gym to strengthen it up, it's still not right but it's a lot better =)

No Lizzie, it doesn't hurt in the joint at other times, just feels as if it is really bruised around it. I know I should see a doctor but I know what they will say, take ibuprofen as an anti inflammitory and see. :?

I was wondering about some strenthening exercises Lisa.

Swimming would be brilliant...water supports your body and am sure it would really help to build up your strength? :-D

My daughter had a similar problem with her elbow. It would dislocate and then go in again {cry} Very painful but she seems to have grown out of it.Doesnt help you much..........the gp would probably suggest a vist to the physio for some excercises to strengthen the muscles round the joint.Skiing excercises might help........

Skiing now there's a point.
I have just entered a competition for a ski holiday for 4. So if I win you can have it.
There I can be helpful sometimes.
