Cheap, Local, Eco, Paint, Pub - Win,win, win, win, win.Cheap, Local, Eco, Paint, Pub - Win,win, win, win, win. You know when you have an idea in your head and it doesn't quite come together.
I'm a great believer in that when the time is right an opportunity will come along. Well I have a list of things I want to happen and I nudge them along and usually things on the list do come around. I have a lean to extension at the back of the house probably 50 years old and I think its cement rendered and finished in white paint. It doesn't get much sun so is a little damp. Noting worth resolving. The paint is flaking and the chickens like to peck at it. I've been thinking of whitewashing it for various reasons. I've never been able to find (not put too much effort in) a local supplier of lime with enough knowledge to be able to tell me if it is the correct lime for white wash. I realise that I'de have to continually have to apply the lime on a 1 to 2 year period but don't mind that at a cost of maybe £10 per application. I'd much rather use a traditional eco system than modern chemical paints. Well it just so happens that my local pub is being repainted. (It's a grade 2 listed building) A bit of a dive inside and they don't have much money. It's a freehold. So they've ask for volunteers to help and for supplies free, at cost, or at discount. I called in yesterday and spotted a large tub of lime putty and asked the my mate who was painting where he got it from. It turns out a guy I nod to at the end of the bar is a leading supplier/manufacturer of lime based paints! A runs a cottage industry. I got all the info and a very good price on some of his products. He reckons the stuff he does is good for 5 - 10 years. It's good enough for Cathedrals and stately homes so it should do for me. This is his web site. http://www.limeearthpaints.com/index.htm It's amazing how things fall into place if you have a little patience and keep an eye and ear open. Re: Cheap, Local, Eco, Paint, Pub - Win,win, win, win, win.Brilliant!
My OH doesn't believe in synchronicity - thinks it's just coincidence, but I've had too many things happen like that to ignore it. Re: Cheap, Local, Eco, Paint, Pub - Win,win, win, win, win.Well I think you can add another couple of wins to the list.
I've just spent a day with the manufacturer being shown how to work with the paint. Also had food and beer supplied for the day and got and invite to a free Sunday lunch for Mrs Orfy and I at the pub that was having the paint applied. Mrs Orfy also got a commission for some photography work. Allotment http://taylorsplot.blogspot.com/

Sounds like it was a wonderful day, all around! Re: Cheap, Local, Eco, Paint, Pub - Win,win, win, win, win.I am a firm believer that if you send out your request to the universe and keep your eyes and ears open, things come to you in ways like this.
Sunny Clucker welcome in Barnsley.
Re: Cheap, Local, Eco, Paint, Pub - Win,win, win, win, win.Oh Orfy what a good outcome. Only wished you had found this about 3 years ago.
It cost us an absolute fortune to paint the render of our house with Earth Borne (think thats how you spell it) paint and its starting to come off and has mould on it already. It is supposed to be breathable though. The only reason we went for a breathable paint was because of the damproofing we had done. It stipulated on the guarantee that the exterior, if painted had to be breathable. Re: Cheap, Local, Eco, Paint, Pub - Win,win, win, win, win.Sounds like a good case of everyone helping each other - after all the pub has had your services for the day whilst you have been gaining experience.
