Re: Help me and others to stop smokingHi,
Couldn't get internet here at the house sit l;ast night. Very well. The official diagnosis is COPD. I did the CarbonWotsit test and the Nurse was amazed I'm only a 6, she said for my age and all the years of smoking I'd be a lot over that, one woman had a 38 last week apparently. Anyways, after a very positive chat, she gave me a fortnights worth (I'm away next week) of patches and inhalers. I haven't done either yet, she said to start at Southampton on Tuesday where I'm not allowed to smoke anyway and the Grandkids will be spying on me! She said that so many try going cold turkey and they're the one's that usually don't last, you have to do it an agreed, sensible and comfortable way to suit yourself. I go back once a week for seven weeks basically to get repeat-prescriptions or changes. Yesterdays stuff would cost £66 retail !! Good job I'm over 60! So, positive, confident and extremely impressed with the help and set up there is for people. Richard New Member? Get more from the Forum and join in 'Members Chat' - you're very welcome

Re: Help me and others to stop smokingI wish you all the very best Richard. OH has COPD, diagnosed just before Christmas, not from cigarettes, but years of joinery work, before masks and ear plugs, etc.
Re: Help me and others to stop smokingHi Richard and Al, how's it going so far?

Re: Help me and others to stop smokingHope it is all going ok Richard with giving up smoking. I have COPD, diagnosed last year after bout of pneumonia, mine is caused by smoking, spreckly. I found it quite a shock diagnosis especially as I gave up smoking 12 yrs ago, but as Dr. said, if I was still smoking would be lots worse.
Re: Help me and others to stop smokingWell done Richard and I think you're in Southampton just now, so all our paws for you

Re: Help me and others to stop smokingHi,
Thanks. I'm doing OK. Must admit I had two yesterday, but not over worried about that as the Nurse said a couple of weeks. I'm finding as long as I'm busying myself it's not too bad. With the grandkids around, as soon as I have a craving I just say we'll have a game on Mario Karts and occupy myself that way for 15 minutes! Also, walking the dog is a good one. I find the patches quite good but don't like the Inhaler, really gives you a burnt mouth sensation, so I'll ask to try the Puffer or Gums next Monday when I go back for my second of seven visits. Problem is it's thing's I wouldn't be doing at home, but with Cricket starting a bit the week after next and all the new non smoking laws etc. I should be OK. Richard New Member? Re: Help me and others to stop smokingWell done Richard
Like I said don,t beat yourself up , I had the patches , found they were the best because they gave a slower release of Nicotine ,, that way it felt more managable over the longer run. ( afected my sleep though so take it off before sleeping .) The patch also made my arm ach and itch,,but the benifits well outway... Listen theres no doubt you will get a little ratty at first , but it will ware off... just remind yourself , it was your choice , ... ( not nagging , just my experience . |
