Post by Essex Bird »

WOW, what a great idea to do to a pallet, i want to do one, wheres AL?.....dear AL, do I need to line it first or just start filling from the bottom up as you would with a hanging basket? Should I line the back? I have some spare pallets hanging around, please advise x

also I was thinking of trying to build a 3 bay compost thingy, I could use one of these at each end and plant into it as well

I don't believe it I was going to make one of these myself. )t'

I wouldn't just fill it from the top as when you water it the compost would wash out.
What I would do is cut some pieces of wood that fit between the flat boards of the pallet these can then be nailed in place through the front and rear of the pllet whe it is stood up.
Imagine 14 individual planters in the pallet in the picture. )t'

Maggie if you think of the pallet stood up as it is in the picture when you insert the cut pieces of wood they would create a floor/bottom to each of the flat boards.

That's a good idea but sounds like a lot of work for me, what if I lined the inside completely with that black weed suppresant sheeting then only cut plug holes in the front, only water from top ?
Not looking for easy way out, but don't think DIY skills are good enough

Tutorial - I think this is the site that your picture is from originally.
