When Irish eyes are smiling, they are usually up to mischief.

Re: Hanging herb gardenA good idea for keeping them a way from the chickens.
Only problem is it can dry out very quickly if you use a canvass one. Plastic is better. Like this. I like this idea also. Allotment http://taylorsplot.blogspot.com/

Re: Hanging herb gardenOrfy instead of filling the shoe compartment with compost, what about if you filled a small plastic bag with compost, pop the plant in, then pop the whole caboodle in the shoe compartment it may help the water retention problem. Just a thought, as the idea of herbs growing in your holder seems a great idea.
Dont ever grow up, its a trap
Re: Hanging herb gardenor you could put empty food cans into each pocket with the herbs planted in them. great idea, I hope that it lasts the season

Re: Hanging herb gardenI've seen something similar online but they suggested adding battons to the back. The reason why however has escaped me lol
Re: Hanging herb gardenCan't see any reason why it wont work will have to keep it well watered though and ensure it doesn't dry out!
Live a simple life and be happy , Rich.
Re: Hanging herb gardenI have been on the lookout for a shoe hanger like that for ages now - I saw one planted up as a salad garden with tumbling toms, some herbs and all sorts of cut and come again salad leaves. I have also seen it done with strawberries.
Waiting to welcome Sunny Clucker to Northern Ireland!
