Duramycin-10

Post by KRACKED-IT »

Sorry just could not miss this one, even if somebody
is already using it,is thinking of using it,saw it and was going
to mention it,or for any other reason.
Duramycin-10 is an antibiotic used for swine, calves and
poultry. All you need to know about it is on the site or packet.
For begginers, ask before using, just to be on the safe side.
You will see yourselves if you buy it,that it contains Tetracycline
Hydrochloride and is in a soluble powder form.
It can be found on our favorite on line site E-Bay or or
the web.Mine is ordered,it treats a lot of water, but you can find
that yourselves.
Don't forget,if you have just started keeping chickens ASK.

I'm not convinced that advising new keepers to self-diagnose and medicate is a brilliant idea?

why not spend £20 at the vets for a proper diagnosis and ABs?
It'll be alright in the end, if it's not alright then it's not the end.

I have been having a research after reading this....

You may avoid the visit to the vet but I would have to say if you are new to keeping chooks (or even if you've had chooks for years) then that's exactly where you should be going.

Misdiagnosis leading to the wrong treatment = not a good idea at all.
Using the wrong antibiotic = wrong treatment / could make things worse/waste of money.

I have had a read about this and the information I have got so far(from here) is that the producers advise
“You need to discard the eggs for 3 weeks (21 days) after the last dose of Duramycin 10.”

So if you need to dose them for 7-14 days then you are looking at an egg withdrawal of 4/5weeks.

I don't see the point at all to be honest.and whilst I really don't mean offence it doesn't seem like you've researched this and any issues about it.

I've had chooks for a few years now and am getting better at diagnosing common complaints but I would be very wary of giving an antibiotic without advice from a vet :?

I have to agree with Nefs here, plus of course Manda and Lucy.

Just think would we give our children anti-biotics without professional diagnosis and referring to a Practitioner.

However, I've scanned all the Affiliated Sites to Down the Lane and no one sells it.

Not trying to belittle anyone, just think it's a bit dangerous territory.

Using antibiotics may seem like a 'quick fix', 'miracle cure'.
But the disease organisms adapt and become resistant. So if used when not needed they are not effective when really needed, both for animals and humans.

NOW what was the thing I mentioned TWICE!!
Something along the lines of begginers asking
FIRST,and the first stxxxd reply I get is=I don't
think it's a good idea advising begginers to use
medication they know nothing about.
I think reading lessons should be a first,
friendly site or not.
I seem to remember, not a couple of weeks
ago, another medication for my beloved chook's,
and now people are using it everywhere.!!!!
I like everybody on this site,do not wish to
mur.der my chook's,and if it does what it says in
the report,I shall be asking for a full refund. If I
do not get it,then I will burn it as soon as it
arrives.

I do not really want any replies, and it will
be the last time I recommend any medication on
this site again.

You don't get it , do you?
Antibiotics SHOULD NOT be used without a prescription.
That doesn't mean 'advice' or 'reading the label' or using something that had worked before. It means medical or vetinary diagnosis of that particular ailment.

The benefits from the discovery of antibiotics have changed society. But could be lost by irresponsible overuse.

Then you tell me,how many vets know how to prescribe
for chickens,or for that matter even care about them. What
they do is go through a list of medication until they have
cured it if you are very lucky. And I've been down that road
far to many times.
If there are not people on here that have not been
through it,then I will be very surprised.
Also, are there many people who do not use Frontline
for cats. And are you absolutely sure about flubenvent?
And I believe that some people overdose on ACV and Garlic.

It's you that does not get it.How many medications
do you use that are definitely safe.
I did say I did not want replies, some people have a
way of winding me up,with their mightier than though attitudes,
when in the end they are no better.

You did indeed say that new chicken keepers should ask before using but who are you supposed to ask? The companies selling it are there for a reason - to make a profit, they're not going to tell you NOT to buy their product. The person best to ask would be a vet... in which case you might as well get the antibiotics from them.

There are all sorts of remedies that we can use to aid the health of our chooks but when it comes to serious medication, I'll stick with a qualified vet )t'

Thank you for bringing it to everyone's attention though. Maybe some will try it, personally I won't but that is what this forum is about - personal choice and a right to reply )t'

Kracked It

I've re-read your original post and those following before you came back and can't see anything which would belittle you or be a reason to retort in such a way..
People are saying their opinion just as you have done. We can't always agree.

I don't know a lot about Chicken Health matters and medication, but would follow advice of some of those who have posted to your post, they are well in the know and I would trust their judgement and comments in this instance.
