Alternative cleanser for face

Post by Spreckly »

I think this might have been touched on some while ago in one of Lillia's posts, but this morning, as I was using my A...on cleanser, I realised that I shall no longer have access to Rep's rate A...on, and would like to find a natural facial cleanser. For years all I used was a flannel, and water!

Has anyone any ideas, please. I have a sensitive skin, and can start itching at the drop of a hat.

Thanks Wendy, what a simple remedy! I have a packet, so will have a go tomorrow, and see if I have a reaction.

Boosmummy, I was using a B....s product before doing A.....n, which was a foamy face wash, can't remember what it consisted of now, but will make a note of yours.

It may be a stupid question, but Wendy and Sara, do you wash your face first before using the baby wipes?

No just night and morning with the wipes.
As Sara says a quick wipe in the shower after I exfoliate, but not before or after using the wipes

Lush do nice face scrubs and cleansers, and no animal testing is involved either! :-D

I use oatmeal, mixed with a litle milk or water, scrub on and rinse off. It reduces redness, exfoliates, adds a bit of UV protection and leaves my face feeling lovely smooth and clean.

It can also clog the sink, so I put a spare flannel in the bottom of the sink to catch the bits. I'd use a drain catcher like we have in the kitchen sink, but can't find one that small!

I suppose I could wash my face in the kicthen sink???

Lisa, our nearest Lush stockist is a forty mile round trip away, but thanks for the info. Stef, thank you for the oatmeal information.

I'm a bit evengelical about it, tbh. So few people believe me. A work colleague berated me for thinking she was so silly as to believe me. I mean no one washes their face with porridge >coc<

Well, no-one except me :-D

Oatmeal is one of my wonder things. It does for my skin what bicarbonate of soda does for cleaning the house!

Full fat yogurt

Honey - diluted in a bit of water (helps your skin attract and retain water). It also contains natural antibacterial and anti inflammatory ingredients ..manuka honey is espcially great for that

Either one of these you can mix with Oatmeal (either as is or blitz it a bit in a blender or even a pestle and mortar) to make them exfoliate as well...

No Stef you are not the only one who does it ...and to your colleague I would ask who is the silly one the one who puts natural products on their face or the one who shoves a load of chemicals on there ...I know what I think )grin2(

And the yoghurt version is great for any sunburned patches!

I'm glad it's not just me, Manda! I can't remember the last time I put anything soapy or bought on my face. I'd still make my own shampoo too, but the good ingredients got to be scarce and expensive - might have another look if anyone knows anything different!

The same colleague also screeched disbelievingly when I suggested adding milk powder and or bicarb to a bath to sooth sunburn. I even sent her a real science link... but no! Despite the fact that I am a really pale, freckly redhead and have used mainly natural products all my life.....

You can't help some people and I have decided she is one of them :-D
