diy confusion

if your landlord (housing assocition) sent you a letter saying they are upgrading your 'consumer unit' what would this be? :? :?

That would be your electrical fuse box. :-D

I thank you!! i thought it was this but the neighbour today assumed it was the boiler so i just didnt know xx

It's not a fuse box, as you don't have fuses, it's a consumer unit containing miniature circuit breakers, residual current devices and main switches.

But if you're really old you'll call it a fuse box :b(

We have an old fashioned fuse box. When we were having the central heating done there was a bit of headscratching "no, not allowed to touch that, not up to modern standards"
OTOH my husband says he doesn't trust the newfangled consumer units since (if you are working on a circuit) you can't remove the fuse and take it away. A friend of his was working in the loft and his wife thought the circuit breaker had flipped out so she flipped it in again yike*

He should have remembered to use duct tape!

Once his wife was securely fastened to a chair there would have been no way she could have flipped the switch.
