Believe me, your kind words of encouragement made a difference. I did it. Walked into that gymnasium with my walker, friends said hello, how are you, watched the game (my grandson's team won beautifully), and I had a good time! The anticipation was much worse than the reality, so I think I learned a lesson. Thanks again, so very much.

There is a man down my street who really struggled to walk to the shops with the aid of a walking stick. He trudged very slowly past my house. One day he got a wheelie walker and now he whizzes by. I asked him how he was getting on with it. He said he was always afraid of falling, that's why he walked so slow. Now he has the frame to hold on to his confidence has increased greatly. He is able to go faster because he doesn't feel afraid any more.

I wish I could persuade my 89 year old uncle to get one as he gets quite weary walking a few yards. He is adamant he isn't getting 'one of those things'.

Yes, go for it, anything that aids walking has to be a good thing.

Well done you! Onwards and upwards.
Isn't it so often the case that anticipation of things we dread are worse than the reality?
