Anybody still haven't trimmed their hedges yet?

I only trim our hawthorn once a year and like to leave trimming it till just before it comes back to life again after the winter. That way it leave the berries for the birds for as long as possible.

my privet hedge though I think it's gone a bit beyond "trimming" Because it is the full length of the garden (and more at the front and along the other side) it is a huge job and not my favourite task

Mike is slowly ripping our hedge apart. It is hawthorn that has been very badly neglected and he is taking out as much of the ivy as possible. He even found a wall we had never seen before - right by the gate. We've only lived here for 9 years :-D

To be fair he did start at the back, getting the brambles out of our way!

I think that once the snow has gone he'll give it its yearly severe hair cut and plant in a few extras where the gaps are too big for bending in a gap filler.
