Well my son had his surgery on Wednesday and came home the same day, despite the nurses recommending he stay in overnight.
My DIL went to pick him up and he was just sitting in a chair in his dressing gown because he was in too much pain to get dressed. He was on the 1st floor of the hospital so had to walk some way to get to the car. I know they have a lift, but I think it was still a fair lot of walking. The nurse at the nurse's station offered to get him a wheelchair, but he said he was okay.
We were at his house looking after our granddaughter and when he came in, gosh he was as white as a sheet and looked to be in agony. It took 2 of us to get him onto the sofa bed. He couldn't get up the stairs and they have no downstairs bathroom.
He wasn't given any pain meds to bring home and DIL had to get in touch with their GP to get something for him.
Last night I phoned him to ask how he was and he was complaining of pain in his belly button. I don't know what possessed him but he had put a hot wet flannel on there to ease the pain
Now I would have thought you should keep wounds dry and as sterile as possible, I hate to think what germs that flannel had on it.
I give up trying to give advice
