Winter pansies and cyclamen

Post by Benny&Co »

I bought a nice tray of winter pansies and cyclamens before the snow came.

They're still in my garage at present, as I thought if they get snowed on they'd not survive.

Do you think it'd be safe to plant them now the snow has gone..... still we may have some more yet to come though?

What do you think lovely Laners? Any advice much appreciated :-D

I have usually planted these things in the autumn but having said that the cyclamen are usually over in my garden by now anyway. Why not plant in tubs and then you can bring them back into the garage if the weather goes really bad ?

I once dumped a very sorry looking cyclamen in a corner of the garden, where it rooted and comes up every year, quite a decent sized plant now.

I do mean dumped not planted

Plant them out, they will be too dark in the garage.

Winter pansies no problem. They are designed to be hardy.
Cyclamen depends on the type, the very small species ones are hardy but the hybrid are not. A tub in a sheltered spot sounds a good idea.

In general snow is nowhere near as damaging to plants as frost and cold winds.
