>dowhat< Oh dear - that doesn't sound good June. I remember you having it done fairly recently.

At the moment (unless it is 'disturbed' by something) I am not really in pain on a day to day basis, just a few niggles, but it is very worrying that it came full on so suddenly for you though. :?

Also I am not sure I would be able to use crutches effectively, as I had bad shoulders a few years back and they have never recovered strength. In fact the whole logistics of recovery frightens me to death! }hairout{

Thanks you though June, I will certainly bear that in mind. As I am going back in 6 months, perhaps I will have an idea of how slowly/fast they are deteriorating.

So sorry Helen if I have worried you. {hug} I took a long winded way of saying that if arthritis is setting in, then the bone will become worn, affecting the joint. If you have joints that dislocate, then the joint is not normal anyway. Just saying, if you start to get persistant pain, however mild, then think about it sooner that later. Of course your consultant will keep you well informed about how things are going.
Bye the way, most crutches are I think, elbow crutches and much easier to walk with.
Also, your hospital may not have such a long waiting list for hip surgery as mine. Might pay you to find out.
I really can understand your quandry and I am only giving my opinion because of my experience. I have had 2 done in 3yrs and have never looked back. To be pain free is wonderful. {hug}

Not really anything to add - I feel for you Helen - I think there's quite a few people on here who know what it's like - my knee is really starting to restrict what I can do and I'm too young for a knee replacement. Been referred for some more scans but it does really get you down sometimes. I feel like a little old lady when I get up in the morning - it's miserable.

Ouch, our bodies can really let us down sometimes. A nasty shock when you weren't expecting that outcome but at least you have a diagnosis and a specialist now. Hope you don't have too long a wait if and when you do have to have it done.

Thank you all - I feel a bit of a fraud really as my main issue has been the dislocating. It hasn't happened for a couple of months now, but I have still had a few issues when I have over done it (like thinking, having walked for 4 hours I would have to phone my neighbour to come and get me because of the agony, when I was only about 50 yards from home!!!) }hairout{ I am being far more careful now!
