This is a joint diary between me and ace, we thought it would be nice to show all the laners the development of our chicks which some of you may know that we have ace has posted pictures of her two in her chicken diary (bodika, and lana) and i have posted mine in the chicken keeping section (crash).
Mine is defenitaly a cockrel and ace has two hens ( but one may be a boy we will see ) the idea behind the thread is to post pictures and weights weekly to show the development of the chicks.
These chicks were bred from a black rock hen and a large cross breed cockrel.

although the entry is a day late my weights were taken yesterday so are in line with als posts
lana weighs in at a delicate 372 grms i used a 2 litre milk carton as comparison with her forgot to use my hand
she looks hin the first pic but she stepped forward
and boudica weighs in at 428 grams
and finally boudicas message came across loud and clear "fed up of this photo lark ,wheres my bed ?"
the chicks were put on a mix of crumb and growers pellets on monday needless to say there are alot of pellets left in the dish :) naughty babies are rooting through for the crumb and ignoring the pellets but we will get there in the end compared to prilas hunger strike when she first arrived im am prepared to last it out longer than they will

these babies have almost doubled in size and weight this week and have had a massive growth spurt which is very visible al will be along shortly
these photos are of boudica and his tail feathers have forked and have a slight bend in them the collar feathers are now showing more copper markings
s/he weighs in at 837 grms
these photos are of lana
lana has no copper markings as of yet and still has alot of downy feathers coming through on her head ,she has a different shaped tail almost a triangle shape and fuller and less pointed than boudica ,
lana weighs in at 800 grms
both chicks are now 7 weeks old and lana and boudica are on growers but i have to crush them slightly as they find it slightly difficult at the moment to pick up the whole pellet ,i tried an experiment today i offered some sunflower hearts which are roughly the same size and they had the same issue i then offered mealworm and again thee same but i slighty crushed the seed and the worm and they found it easier to pick it up so im happy to crush for a week or so to help them along leaving some whole pellet to get them used to it

Crash is now 840g so aces chicks have really caught that may be the growers that has given them the growth spurt crash has been on growers a few days longer.

The detail of the feathering seems more marked on Aces girls, more laced looking I think I mean but they are all lovely.

thank you annie for saying girls but i really think boudica is a little boy but when i see crash and his huge comb and and splayed tail s/he looks so different ,you can really tell that crassh is a boy he has a more defined face and his copper is vibrant ,boudicas is uneven looking to me ,but the growth spurt has suprised me completley Al of course has seen this before i rechecked the scales actually and weighed a bag of sugar to check ,i must admit they have done nothing but eat im fed up of grinding pellets
do you have any thoughts of the boy /girl mystery ??????????????????
im wondering also what al thinks he hasnt given me an inkling yet ,he is being very reserved

but when i see crash and his huge comb and and splayed tail s/he looks so different ,you can really tell that crassh is a boy he has a more defined face and his copper is vibrant ,boudicas is uneven looking to me ,but the growth spurt has suprised me completley Al of course has seen this before i rechecked the scales actually and weighed a bag of sugar to check ,i must admit they have done nothing but eat im fed up of grinding pellets
