Not chickens but thought it would be intresting.

Post by big al »

Hi

Today i have found a nest full of 6 chicks it was on the floor next to a hedge so it had been dislodged and fell out or something or someone had pulled it out. There wasa no sign of mum or dad but they wouldnt have come back to the nest.

The chicks were cold and the nest was damp so i picked it up and took it home got them warm they didnt want to feed at first so i left them and just warmed them up they were then panting as they got too warm so moved them to a cooler spot as they were panting i managed to get bits of mealworms in to them then left them for an hour they were nice and snug and heard me and their heads went straight up for food.

They seem really strong and want to feed i am giving them a mix of maggots, mealworms, and worms i dug up. Hopefully they will make it i am feeding them every 30 - 60 mins this should be fine as the parents fetch one morsel to feed one chick at a time i can feed them all at once.

Here are some photos

And one with my finger for size comparason.

I think these chicks are robin chicks.

I will keep posting updates on their progress.

You are a kind man Al and I really hope these little chicks pull through to reward you, especially if they are cheerful little robins - you can never have too many of them in your garden.

Im getting up at 5 oclock in the morning to feed them and they get fed every 30 - 60 mins untill 9 oclock at night. this will go on another two weeks before they fledge and then they will still need food afterwards for another two weeks before they will be strong enough to go it alone.

They have been to collage today with me and i will be taking them tomorrow the staff and students were amazed at them some of them had never seen baby birds before.
