Cakes...again...(Adult cakes)

Post by manda »

As October is Breast Cancer awareness month I was asked to make a cake to be auctioned off to raise money...I've never made a boob cake before so thought it would be good to give it a go....in the meantime a friend asked me to make a 21st birthday cake for her son.....so

Someone's just asked me if I can make a dartboard for her dad's 70th for the beginning of next month....not done that before so....I think I'll have to give it a go.

Manda, they are conpletely fab - I assume they are sponge? If so, how did you get the icing so smooth on them as I guess you can't use a smoother on them?

Yep they are a butter cake recipe which is so easy but every time I try something else I'm always disappointed. Imade them in a basin Helen and then put a layer of butter cream over the top of them once I shaped them and just kept dipping the knife in hot water to smooth the icing (I will get a pallet knife eventually)...then into the firdge for a while to let it harden off a little bit and then put the fondant over the top...which helps keep the fondant smooth.

I think I'm learning all the time and getting those little things that help make them look a little better everytime....I know it's practice too - I'm going tobe getting plenty of that too.
