painting pipes & rads

Post by Mo »

We have removed a pipe cover (useless as it wouldn't stay on), so have bare copper pipes. The white finish on the rad is slightly chipped, so we thought we'd gloss it Magnolia to match the room.
What preparation do we need (not perfectionist, just want the paint to stick).

Do I need any sort of primer on copper?

I've done it using metal primer first and also just using gloss or emulsion and have not really noticed any real difference in the finish. It may stay looking better for a bit longer with primer but not so you'd notice and it only takes a trice to touch up if it really needs it.

I am probably too late but go to a plumbers merchant or DIY store and get 'pipe-snips' It is a tight roll of white or silver plastic that wraps around the pipe long-ways. Cut to length accurately. Silly price but fit and forget.
