sprouts!

Post by boosmummy »

I have a load of them and I'm currently shelling them. The ends for the rabbits, the outer leaves for the dragon and the sprouts for the freezer hopefully for use throughout the year and next Christmas. My question is how do I make sure all the bugs etc... Are off them before I start distributing to the animals and us? Surely a wash won't just suffice?

Yeah like the leaves I wouldn't leave on the sprout, not the slug eaten ones though. I'll give them the bearded dragon x

We were always told 'extra protien' if we found something on our cabbage.
Actually I don't find much in sprouts. Thinking about it maybe that because bought sprouts are sprayed. One year some of our sprout were 'blown' & covered in nasty sticky white fly and a right job to clean. I think they came off in the boiling water, and they could have an extra rinse in cold before going into the freezer. Any for the hens - well they can sort it out themselves.

Now I call that being fussy (though I do remove the hole)
