Vietnamese ingenuity, making tools from nothing…

Post by saint-spoon »

Hats off to the dockyard workers in Vietnam, many of the tools that they use are cobbled together and improvised from other things, my particular favorite are these brushes made from twigs held together with cable ties, I watch them knock them up, some with handles and song just like this.

The welding chaps all carry home made chipping hammers, one is made froma couple of bolts and one from a piece of conrcrete reiforcing bar.

That's amazing! Perhaps they wrap the handles with leather when using them? Apart from their hands, I should think the jarring up their arms would be pretty damaging, otherwise.

I'm very DIDon't, myself, but I've been noticing on jewellery-making videos how often jewellers make their own tools and tool storage from other things. My favourites were a pair of beautifully-polished mini-prying bars made from old screwdrivers for opening fold-formed metal, and a mini forming block / mandrel holder made from free offcuts of wood from a timber merchant.

They are marvellous at using all the available stuff.
Definitely the epitome of frugal living. Nothing, but nothing goes to waste.
Good to see you are enjoying working there.

They are amazing. Just shows what you can do if you try/want to. Brilliant.

I love ingenuity like this.
When I worked in the factory I snapped the wooden handle on my hammer so I welded a steel tube in its place and made a grip from self amalgamating tape.
I had it for less than two shifts before it was confiscated and replaced with onother one with a lollypop stick for a handle. }hairout{
