We've been having 2 smallish pickings (one for us, one that my grandson picks for them) a week for about 3 weeks.

It's all gone.
Monday at OH's birthday meal the choice was Rh crumble and greengage pie - I had to go out and pick more rhubarb when I found our that none of the kids/grandkids wanted pie. (well 2 didn't have a choice as I don't attempt gluten-free pastry).

We have had a couple of pickings from two clumps of rhubarb that have bins over them for forcing. I love it when it so young and tender, so mix with apples or shop bought strawberries for crumbles.
The plants that are growing normally are not yet reading for picking, although nearly there.
I am now a widow and live with my memories.

Sorry, don't know what's eating them - unless you have free-ranging hens. Some say hens won't eat rhubarb leaves , they know it's poisonous, others say their hens eat it and it does them no harm.

OH likes ginger with his rhubarb, he buys jars of ginger blobs in syrup and cuts one up to add to his bowl.

It's called stem ginger and that what I use. Because it's in syrup, it's a lot less sharp than fresh root ginger.

We've had 3 pickings so far and there will be another one tomorrow.

We've had pies, crumbles and just stewed with custard. Funnily enough, there's always a couple of spoonfuls of stewed rhubarb left over so of course I have to have some with my home made yoggie for breakfast.

There was a good looking rhubarb and ginger cake on the FB page yesterday. I'll be back later to pinch it if the recipe has now been posted
Bea; 19 hens (most of whom I intended to get); 6 bantams (which I never intended to have); old Benji dog and young Toby dog (who I definitely wanted). Three years into country living and loving it.
