home baking costs

Post by Mo »

I'm trying to work out how much it costs to cook various cakes (so that if we sold cakes in the interval of a dance it would be at a profit, not a loss).
I can look up the ingredients on a supermarket website, but what about the gas. Any idea how much that costs - I don't know where to start.

For the cost of your gas you would have to look on your gas bill to find out how much per unit you are being charged.
You would have to make sure that nothing but the gas cooker was using any gas, so no central heating or heating hot water while you cook.
Then take a meter reading before and after cooking, work out how much gas you used and work out the cost from your gas bill.

I don't have a meter, I have a calor tank. Any guesses? I don't know if it's a penny or a pound.
