Swiss Chard

Post by Jenny »

Does anyone know when I can spray on my Swiss Chard to keep it bug free? Would prefer chemical free is possible.

I grow Swiss chard and never have to spray it. I have grown it in the UK as well as here in BG, problem free apart from the odd nibble from molluscs, occasionally a leaf miner. Any damaged leaves go to the chooks. Best in a cooler part of the garden if you live in a hot area and if it doesn't bolt will produce for 12 months till next year's is ready. )t'

We also grow chard and have never had a problem with it. Are you having trouble with pests or just anticipating it?

Something appears to be eating it. Some of it has holes in and I also found some small black bugs that I presumed were black fly.

You don't have to eat the holes. Call it a new 'lacy' variety.

I have never had to spray mine and as it grows so quickly and if you pick a leaf more grows back I would not worry.
Plus of course my chickens love it so nothing sprayed . )t'
