DIY Hedgehog House 2

Post by Richard »

My new addition.

Dimensions are 13"x13" interior space with 9" entrance 5"x5".
Walls are from Pallets, rest of it from odd and ends. The Pallets are probably 50 years old so no preservatives left in them.
The roof is double layered with HD Bin Bag plastic between the two.

Have you thought of making and selling some of these? You can buy hedgehog houses for extortionate prices at garden centres - maybe people would be interested in buying for a reasonable price from you. Bit of extra income and getting more people to help {hog} {hog}

Hi Scrambled,

Funny you should mention that, I'm buying some wood this week (B&Q Seniors discount day - looking for remnants of untreated stuff!!) and building a 'more retail' model, as in not wood wormed pallet wood from the barn.

Saying that, the wood I've used is well aired and not all smelly new.

I'll try my hand at one or two and go from there.

Thanks, Richard )t' )t' {hog}

That looks great Richard, are the dimensions officially the right size for hedgehogs?
I will be showing my hubby this and seeing what he can do.
We have big big piles of cut down vegetation in our field from the initial site clearing that desparately needed to be done - it's all destined to be burned but I am very worried that a hedgehog or two might have adopted it as home in the meantime.
Maybe a few of these boxes might persuade them out???
